Rhymes of Play is a series of works inspired by jump rope chants, handclapping games and other childhood traditions of play. Rhymes and games based in rhythm and repetition show how play allows for enduring, yet malleable creativity. In our increasingly digital world, the visual and oral exchange of ideas still defines communities in powerful ways achievable only in-person. Centering presence and playfulness allows for authentic creative community that is continually evolving and open-ended rather than singularly focused on achieving static form or meaning. Rhymes of Play recognizes that repetition, substitution and use of the nonsensical, can create meaning based in this spirit of analog play.
